Cesspit collection changes will vary over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, but rubbish and recycling collections won’t.
Easter Bank Holiday: Changes to Cesspit Collection Schedules
Guernsey Water is advising cesspit customers of temporary changes to collection schedules over the four-day Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
To maintain service continuity, some collections will be rescheduled automatically.
Customers do not need to take any action.
What customers need to know:
• Collections originally scheduled for Good Friday will be brought forward to Wednesday or Thursday, or moved to Saturday.
• Emergency collections only will take place on Good Friday.
• There are no planned changes for Easter Monday, and collections will take place as normal.
The cesspit service is currently in a strong position, helped by the unusually dry conditions experienced in March, with rainfall at around one third of the average for this time of year.
Customers who noticed their cesspit filling unusually quickly during February’s heavy rainfall are encouraged to contact a drainage contractor for advice, as this may indicate that repairs are required.
Guernsey Water Customer Services Manager Tania Sargent said: “We’re giving customers a few days’ notice that their scheduled collection will change because of the Bank Holiday. The MyCesspit Portal is the quickest way for customers to check their updated collection date and avoid any uncertainty.
“By keeping cesspits properly sealed and using the portal to stay informed, customers can help ensure capacity is available for those who need it most, and avoid additional costs themselves.”

Waste and recycling collections to run as normal over Easter
Household waste and recycling collections will be unaffected by the two bank holidays over the Easter Weekend.
Thursday night collections will go ahead as normal this week, despite coinciding with Good Friday.
Households in central St Peter Port who normally set out waste and recycling on a Sunday night will also have their normal collection this weekend, even though it coincides with Easter Monday.
Sunday night’s recycling collection in St Sampson’s is also unaffected.
Any households who wish to know which materials to put out on which night can go to www.gov.gg/mybinnight.
Please note that the Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) will be closed on Friday 3 April and on Monday 6 April, but site will resume to their normal opening hours in between these days. The Household Green Waste will be open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday 10am – 4pm.
