The change means that 2020 returns will not be made available until later than usual; the Revenue Service expects to announce a new date before the end of this year.
“By extending the deadline we’re hopefully giving more people a little bit more breathing room.”
While it is hoped the extension will benefit islanders, it is also expected to be useful for corporate clients who are using a new online return. Some have reported technical difficulties, which the Revenue Service said it is “working to address”.
Reminders will not be sent out to everyone, but the Revenue Service will use media outlets to make sure the community is aware of the approaching deadline.
