Ongoing issues with some of Guernsey’s public buses have been blamed on road works and closures by the company running the service.
Recent complaints have included some focused on the lateness of the 61 service which moves passengers between the town terminus and Pleinmont.
It calls in at the hospital in both directions and covers busy residential and community hubs including the Grange, King’s Mills, the Longfrie, and Perelle Bay.
Stagecoach said it is “aware of concerns” regarding this service and in particular problems occurring soon after it makes its first departure from the Albany at 06:40 each morning.
Stagecoach has “reviewed the service’s performance” following recent complaints said a spokesperson.
“Data shows the journey is departing from Town Terminus on time. However, traffic congestion on the return journey has been causing delays, making the connection with the start of the school and college day tight.
“Roadworks and a road closure are likely to have contributed to these delays, and we expect punctuality to improve now that these factors have eased.”
Stagecoach has recently had to answer criticism about the introduction of its new timetables, and errors in communicating this with the public – including putting timetables into frames that are too small for them, meaning passengers can’t read them properly.
Where services run late, the company said it monitors punctuality data and discusses any issues with the States if any further action is required.
