A gin made in Sark from ingredients including locally-foraged seaweed has won gold at a major drinks industry awards.
Sark Gin, which is made by Sark Distillery, was awarded a Gold Medal at the London Spirit Awards.
The judges praised the spirit’s “distinctive character” and said infusing seaweed – alongside juniper, rosemary and citrus – was a “truly unique” touch that gave the gin “an unmistakable island identity”.
A spokesperson for the distillery said the team was “delighted to see our hard work and dedication to the production of artisan local produce recognised”.
Thy distillery had a particular focus on the environment, the spokesperson said.
“We have in excess of 600 apple trees providing biodiversity for the island along with delicious fruit to make our products.”
The gin is double-distilled in small batches in a hand-crafted, 100-litre copper still, using locally-sourced produce.

The company – which was founded in 2016 – also produces cider, apple brandy and apple cider vinegar.
Sark Gin is on sale at restaurants across Sark and from Foodstop, on the Avenue.
