Their fundraising event took place during yesterday’s baking hot temperatures along Guernsey’s west coast with 350 students from years 7 to 10 taking part.

Organiser, teacher Jason Dodd, said It had been a great day out, and the sunshine hadn’t posed a problem.

“It has been really quite nice, and the coastal breeze was pleasant. The walk was just over 11 miles. We just had to make sure the pupils had two bottles of water each and were suncreamed up.

“I think this is about the seventh time we have done this. We do a different route every time. This year we have raised money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and at the last count we raised just over £3,000.”

The group had ice creams at Richmond Kiosk at the midway point of their walk, and Mr Dodd was hopeful they could “dig some more out of the food tech department” after getting back to the school.
