Prosecutors withdrew some of the charges against a 51-year-old accused of entering restricted areas at Guernsey Airport in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Russell Payne had faced a total of 12 charges – eight in relation to airport incidents, and four relating to events in 2021 and 2022 including motoring offences and failing to surrender to custody.

Mr Payne entered not guilty pleas to the several charges still being brought against him, with Judge Gary Perry leading proceedings.

He’s still facing accusations of “Entering a Restricted Zone” on two separate occasions, “indecent behavior”, “obstructing officers”, “assaulting an airport fireman”, and an alleged incident in which he was “exposing himself”.

He is accused of climbing the perimeter fence of the airport on two consecutive mornings earlier in October.

Mr Payne has yet to appoint an advocate, which led to the prosecution calling for him to be remanded in custody once again.

Judge Perry commented that he’d already been remanded twice since his initial arrest earlier this month.

He’ll next be seen in court on 17 November.
