Rotary Guernesiais begins its annual shoebox collection this weekend, helping to deliver Christmas gifts for disadvantaged and displaced children in Ukraine, Moldova, Montenegro and Romania.
Opening at 10:00 on Saturday 17 October, volunteers will be at Sigma, Braye Road Industrial Estate, Vale until the end of next week.
Islanders are asked to fill their old shoeboxes with gifts like clothes, books and hygiene products.
Boxes must be marked with which type of child it is aimed at – based on age and gender.
Rotary Guernesiais is anticipating a busy year as they expect to receive boxes people have been preparing over the year.
Volunteers from Inner Wheel, corporate teams and individuals will help Rotary Guernesiais check the boxes, collect them from schools and prepare them to be sent off.
At the end of the week, the Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service will load the cartons of shoeboxes into containers provided by Channel Seaways who will ship them to the Rotary Wessex District Warehouse in Poole before they make their way to their Eastern European destinations.
