“We continue to receive a number of comments in relation to the fact that people are apparently exploiting the empty roads, if they are driving, and going at excessive speeds,” said President of Policy & Resources, Deputy Gavin St Pier yesterday.

“That is causing concern for other members of the community, so please do keep your speed under control.
“It may be tempting if there is an empty road, but you don’t know what is round the corner in terms of families walking or bicycles. The last thing we want is a tragedy and the hospital having to deal with that as a result of excess speed.
“The police are taking it very seriously, so your prospect of getting caught is significantly greater. Please avoid it.”
