The States of Guernsey’s Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation, (OEHPR), alongside Guernsey Water, are attempting to tempt owners of private water sources to register them, with free annual safety tests included as part of the process.
The States say it’s a reminder that “a free annual water quality test is available to those with private water supplies such as a well or borehole”.
Anyone who takes up the offer will receive their free annual test, and will be included in the wider water catchment database, which allows owners to be notified of “potential pollution incidents that could impact their water supply”.
Cathy Rirsch, Senior Environmental Health Officer at OEHPR said: “Each test covers a range of parameters commonly tested for with domestic drinking water supplies, providing those on private supplies with the reassurance that their water is safe, and if it isn’t safe, it provides them with the knowledge to take appropriate action.
“With consent from those registering, we plan to share test results and supply locations with Guernsey Water, which could help provide better data on pollution incidents and allow us to alert any individual whose supply may be affected by pollution incidents in future.”
If you have a private water supply, and would like to register, the contact details for the OEHPR can be found on the States website HERE.
