Flights to and from Guernsey and Alderney are being disrupted by Storm Austen, with Guernsey Airport not expected to reopen until midday on Friday.

The last scheduled outbound flight from Guernsey today is due to depart for London Gatwick at 14:40, with winds forecast to exceed safe operating limits this evening and continue into Friday morning.

All remaining inbound flights to Guernsey today are cancelled.

The airport is expected to reopen at noon on Friday, with flights resuming from around 14:00 following morning safety inspections.

Richard Thomasson, Guernsey Ports’ Airport Director, said storms “obviously pose particular challenges for air travel, and our priority first and foremost is the safety of both the travelling public and our own staff”.

He said the airport, airlines and other “stakeholders” had “agreed a plan that will
keep everyone safe, minimise disruption, and ensure operations return to normal as quickly as possible”.

Flights to resume on Friday afternoon

All remaining flights to and from Alderney today have been cancelled, with the airport also expected to remain closed until noon on Friday, with flights expected to resume tomorrow afternoon.

Further disruption is possible on Friday as airlines work to recover their schedules, with strong winds forecast to continue into Saturday.

Passengers affected by cancellations or disruption should be contacted by their airline about alternative arrangements.

Updates will be published on the Guernsey Ports website and its social media channels.
