A stray snake has been found near St Andrew’s Church with the GSPCA now trying to find its owner.

Charity Manager Steve Byrne said the GSPCA Ambulance Driver was called out this morning to rescue the snake, which it believes is an escaped pet.

“A day doesn’t go by when the GSPCA has stray, sick, and injured animals to help but snakes are one that we now see only from time to time.

“This morning a GSPCA Ambulance Driver and Team Member was called to a location near St Andrew’s Church for a Corn Snake which is now at the Animal Shelter in the same parish.

“We are appealing for the owner or any information to help the snake get reunited.”

Mr Byrne said life is always busy for the GSPCA team with unusual finds like snakes among other more routine calls they receive.

“Rarely is there a day that goes by that we don’t have a lost pet reported which you can see by visiting our social media as when they are reported if we have permission to share online we will do so. We hold a lost and found list at the GSPCA which helps 1000’s of lost and found animals every year.

“We have a page full of lost and found advice gspca.org.gg/services/lost-found-advice and this is the link to report a lost pet service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=gspca&method=online_form_html&formid=18.”

Mr Byrne said finding the owner of a snake can be a bit more tricky than tracking down the owners of a cat or dog.

“When a stray animal is brought into the GSPCA we try all we can to find the owner and although the vast majority are claimed and reunited mostly the same day, a small percentage especially those not microchipped or without any ID are unclaimed and we then need to find them homes.

“For those looking to help give a home to a pet you can see some on website and social media and often we help what we call ‘home to homes’ which are cats with their owners wanting to go to a direct home rather coming through our cattery which for many benefits helping us with space and the cat go to a loving new home as quickly as possible, but we will always help when needed.

“Hopefully we will find the snakes owner quickly but if anyone is interested in registering their interest in adopting a snake or any pet please complete this linkservice.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=gspca&method=online_form_html&formid=23 .”
