The Gower Sunrise Walk of Hope will return again this summer, offering those taking part a chance to reflect during the summer solstice.

Held in aid of Guernsey Mind, the sunrise walk raises awareness around suicide and supports those affected by loss.

This year’s walk will take place on Sunday 21 June, the longest day of the year in terms of hours of sunlight.

To make the most of the sunrise, the walk will begin at 04:00 from Vale Castle, following a 6km route along the east coast to the Bathing Pools.

The walk is open to all ages and abilities, enabling the community to come together in reflection and remembrance, said the organisers.

The walk is not a race, but a shared space for individuals, families and friends to walk at their own pace and take time to remember loved ones, said Hannah Hurley at Gower.

“We are incredibly proud to support the Sunrise Walk of Hope once again. This is a powerful and important event for our community. One that brings people together to reflect, remember and support one another. Raising awareness around suicide and mental health has never been more important, and we’re honoured to stand alongside Guernsey Mind in helping to continue that conversation.”

Amanda Hibbs at Guernsey Mind has taken part in the sunrise walk each year that it has taken place.

“The Sunrise Walk of Hope is a deeply meaningful event for so many in our community. Seeing people come together at such an early hour, united in reflection and support, is incredibly powerful. Every step taken helps raise awareness and enables us to continue providing essential support to those affected by suicide.”

Registration costs £10 per person and is open now.

Refreshments at the end of the walk are provided by Vive La Vallette and Guernsey Guides.
