Sure has launched a new pay monthly plan to help bill payers with young children – designed in conjunction with a movement helping to support parents in providing a ‘Smartphone Free Childhood’ for their families.
The ‘Basic Sharer’ plan has been designed for children and includes unlimited calls and SMS messages, but does not provide mobile data.
The telecom’s company says this allows children to stay in touch through phone calls and texts without having unrestricted access to the internet on the go.
It is also promoting a range of handsets, including the simple Nokia 110 and smartphones from Apple and Samsung, that come with built-in parental controls.
Sure is also directing parents to their online resources and guides on how to use the parental controls on various devices and home routers.
Mike Fawkner, Sure’s Acting Chief Commercial Officer, commented: “We’re all living increasingly digital lives and while that brings lots of benefits it also comes with challenges – especially for young people navigating the online world.”
Mr Fawkner added: “Working with movements like Smartphone Free Childhood has highlighted how much our community cares about online safety. We see it as our responsibility to support families with the tools and guidance they need.”
Sure says it is responding to community concerns about online safety, particularly for young people, following collaboration with groups like Smartphone Free Childhood.
The company aims to give families more control and peace of mind over their children’s digital use.
Mr Fawkner continued: “It is all about giving families options – we want to put the power in their hands so they can decide how their kids engage with the online world. And with that comes the peace of mind that only informed decisions can bring.”
He concluded: “At Sure we take online safety seriously, but also know each family is different. Our role is to provide the right tools and the support so people can make the choices that work for them.”

The telecom’s company have been working with a movement called ‘Smartphone Free Childhood’ to plan out the new deals, parental support options and online guides.
Victoria Falla from the organisation said: “We thank Sure for showing leadership and listening to the concerns of our community.”
Ms Falla added: “In a world where data is a commodity, offering a plan that prioritises simple connection is a refreshingly responsible move. It shows a commitment to the wellbeing of Guernsey’s children.”
