People in Guernsey, Alderney, and Sark have all got the chance to meet our Bailiwick Commissioners today and tomorrow.

The panel are working out how “the Bailiwick can best meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century”.

They also have to consider “how to maintain the independence and unique characteristics of each island and for the Bailiwick as a whole”.

None of the Commissioners live in the Bailiwick, but Sir Robert Neill KC (Chair), Dr Lisa Cameron, Lord Carwyn Jones, Professor Caroline Morris, and Philip Rycroft are in Guernsey today, are travelling to Sark later, and will be in Alderney tomorrow and Saturday.

It is their first visit to the islands since the Commission was formed.

The Commissioners arrived in Guernsey yesterday and will be here for most of today before travelling to Sark. They will spend the night in Sark before moving on to Alderney for the 1 and 2 May.

They plan to “meet the individual communities first-hand” while they are here, “in order to better understand the islands and the issues pertinent to their relationships”.

Each island’s Government has been asked to prepare for the visit including arrangements to meet the community.

Members of the public can meet them at the St Peter Port Constable’s Office between 12:00 and 13:00 today, and between 18:00 and 19:00 at Sark’s Island Hall.

People in Alderney will have two opportunities to meet the Commissioners – either between 19:15 and 20:15 on Friday night at the Island Hall, or between 10:30 and 11:20 on Saturday morning in the Anne French Room.

The Commissioners are already planning further visits later this year and next.

These visits are in addition to the public survey by the Commission, which is open until 15 May. This can be accessed at: gov.gg/bailiwickcommission-survey.
