A music theatre group has repurposed nearly 250 manifesto booklets into a dress for its Dame to wear during an upcoming panto.

Music Theatre Guernsey made a social media call out just after June’s general election asking for people to donate their manifesto booklets so they could be recycled in a creative way.

It hoped to receive 200 and was amazed when 304 were sent.

247 copies were glued together to create the dress which has Snow White sleeves and a bodice – with Deputy Haley Camp’s yellow pages making up the hem and Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Millers pink pages creating skin for the bosom.

The group said it took eight volunteers two-and-a-half days to create using 48 glue sticks and 500 inches of hot gun glue.

The dress will be worn during the performances of the adult re-telling of Pinocchio between 2 and 6 December at St James Concert Hall.

“The joy of panto is bringing audiences together and uniting them in shared experiences, a bit like a Christmas cracker joke. Local events and politics play a key role in that,” said director and creator Darren Alderton.

“And let’s face it – local politics can be a pantomime in itself!”

Tickets are still available for the 18+ show, with evening and matinee showings on offer.
