The campaign was set up ahead of a protest against Education, Sport & Culture’s model, which saw around 2,500 march through Town on Sunday.
Local business, Balloonees, agreed to get involved with the event by donating green balloons to promote the message.

“I don’t have kids that are going through the education system, but I speak daily to lots of concerned parents – very few of which have anything to say about the plans for the current ESC direction,” said Co-Owner of the shop, Mark Passmore.
“We were approached by the organisers of the march regarding balloons and came up with a solution to provide them balloons on sticks to help promote the green message campaign.
“Personally, I feel the States and particularly this ESC committee should have started with a hands on approach at the grassroots level to those that their changes will effect – the pupils and teachers, then the parents. It should really have been properly surveyed and not by using consultants. They would easily have had the correct information to go forward with any changes to better the education system.
“Deputies have failed their parishioners yet again, doing what they think is best. After all, it was the electorate that chose them, so why should they then listen to them now?”

Among those supporting the green ribbons campaign is Deputy Carl Meerveld, who has lodged a requete against the education plans along with two other deputies.
“I ordered 6,000 metres (3.7 miles) of biodegradable green ribbons to support the campaign,” Deputy Meerveld explained. “The ribbons arrived on Friday and by the end of the protest march on Sunday I had only 1,800 metres left.
“Due to the unprecedented demand from businesses, groups and individuals wishing to distribute them, I have ordered another 6,000 metres.
“I believe that this is yet another indication of the broad based objections to the ‘two school’ model and support for ‘pause and review’.”
However, President of ESC Deputy Matt Fallaize has since spoken out, saying Deputy Meerveld and the others lodging the requete should be honest with the public about what they really want.
