Guernsey’s electoral roll is due to close today.

Anyone who wants to vote this June must have their name on it before the end of the day.

Colette Falla, Registrar-General of Electors, said that means there is still time for anyone who is eligible to vote to register though if they act today, but time is running out.

“We hope that, following our extensive campaign in recent months, everyone has had the opportunity to see the information about registering to vote. Our job has been to make the sign-up process as easy as possible and ensure everyone has had access to the registration information via our campaign. Whether people choose to exercise their right to register, and ultimately vote, is of course a matter for them as individuals, but hopefully everyone has by now seen our advertising and had the opportunity to register should they wish.

“(With just a few hours to go), it will be interesting to see if we have a last-minute spike. I’d remind everyone that the registration process takes just a few minutes if done online. We want to ensure that everyone who wants to have a chance to vote doesn’t miss out on the opportunity.”

Breaking down the figures

The latest States figures show that there could be thousands fewer voting at this summer’s island wide vote, compared to five years ago.

When the first fully island wide vote was held in October 2020, there were 31,301 people on the electoral roll.

By lunchtime yesterday, there were 26,482 registered for the planned June election.

If we look back to April 2020, there were 25,119 registered for the first fully island wide vote at the time – but that election was postponed until October, because of the covid pandemic, giving people who wanted to vote longer to register. The total registered had grown by another five thousand by the time the electoral roll closed in August that year.

So although the April 2020 and April 2025 figures suggest we are currently ahead of where we were then, the covid factor means its not an exact year-on-year comparison.

However, if we compare the electoral roll stats for the final week for registering it is clear that there is a gap.

On 23 April 2025, there were 5,576 fewer voters registered than on 13 August 2020 – suggesting that overall this year’s electoral roll is going to be smaller than it was last time around.

A push to publicise the political process

The States electoral roll team have been on a social media push to try and persuade the public to get involved with the political process.

You may have noticed advertisements across television, social media, through sponsored posts, and on streaming platforms such as Youtube.

“We want to continue to remind islanders that this is a new Electoral Roll, so even if you’ve previously registered you must register again to be able to vote in June,” said Ms Falla, the Registrar General of Electors.

“It’s a very fast process, easily done through the election website, or with paper forms if you prefer, so please do take the time to sign up.”
