A tractor driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after some of Guernsey’s firemen were injured while responding to the blaze in Little Sark.
The female driver was taking the firemen over La Coupee when an incident happened on Friday afternoon.
Express understands that eight Guernsey Police officers travelled to Sark after the island’s Constable requested their assistance.
The tractor driver was arrested, taken to Guernsey, and then released on police bail.
“On Friday 10th July, Guernsey Police arrested the driver of a tractor involved in a collision in Sark on suspicion of dangerous driving,” confirmed a spokesperson.
“At the time police ensured that the priority of all emergency services in Sark remained tackling the fire, however enquiries are now ongoing and the suspect is on police bail.”
The owner of the tractor/trailer that was being used to transport the firemen from Sark’s harbour to Little Sark, has also confirmed that a police investigation is underway.
That police investigation was visibly underway on Tuesday.
Members of the Guernsey Police Vehicle Examination Team were on the 08:00 sailing to Sark, before being seen doing some work at La Coupee later on.
They returned to Guernsey the same day.
The five injured firemen were among the very first response team from Guernsey to reach Sark after the island’s Chief Fire Officer declared a major incident on Friday lunchtime.
They all suffered ‘non-life threatening injuries’ and were taken back to Guernsey aboard the Flying Christine III for treatment at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
More firemen travelled to Sark aboard the Flying Christine to help tackle the blaze.
GRFS were stood down on Saturday, with the Sark Fire and Rescue Service still monitoring the site of the fire incase of further flare ups.
