Islanders keen to play an active role in shaping policies and scrutinising decisions affecting Guernsey’s economy are being invited to join a political committee.

The Committee for Economic Development is looking for up to two new non-voting members in hope of bringing fresh expertise and perspectives to the table.

The Committee says the role is about “offering subject expertise not readily available within the Committee”, “challenging constructively”, and “adding value to the decision-making and governance processes”.

They are expected to act in the “best interests of the community” at all times.

The Committee’s remit is wide-ranging, covering the promotion of all sectors of business, the island’s reputation as a centre for commerce and industry, air and sea links, broadcasting and media, and the safeguarding of living marine resources.

The time commitment includes attending half-day meetings every fortnight, as well as preparing for them – with meeting packs often exceeding 100 pages – and taking part in ad-hoc activities, such as presentations or leading on specific areas within the Committee’s mandate.

“The Committee for Economic Development is keen to seek out skills and experience in the community to complement the elected membership,” Committee President Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller (pictured top) explained.

“The Committee is particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience outside of the finance sector and in the areas of its mandate including inward investment, skills, connectivity, competition, digital, innovation, energy regulation, and economics.”

Applications are open until 5pm on Wednesday 13 August 2025, although the Committee has said it may extend the deadline.

Anyone interested in applying for a non-voting member role is asked to contact Committee Secretary Helga Jennings on 07781 190032 or email helga.jennings@gov.gg for more details.
