She faces a tough first round clash after being drawn against No. 10 seed Barboa Krejcikova from Czech Republic.
Watson was among the players who have welcomed Wimbledon relaxing its strict dress code on all-white clothing to allow women to play in coloured shorts under their tennis skirts to reduce worry about menstrual cycles.
“When Wimbledon announced that about the under-shorts I was so happy because it makes such a big difference,” a delighted Watson told Sky Sports.
“I speak openly about my period and being on my period. I don’t think it’s a taboo subject. I would love for people to talk about it more, especially women in sport.”

“So, when I heard this I was really happy because last year I went on the pill to stop myself bleeding because I knew we had to wear white under-shorts, and I didn’t want to face any embarrassment.
“We’re running around sweating, doing the splits on the court.
“This year I knew my period was going to be during Wimbledon again, so I’m very happy that I won’t have to do the same thing as last year. I think it’s a real positive and it’s really great. Really forward-thinking.”

Watson, ranked 145th in the world and sixth in Great Britain, was awarded a wild card to this year’s tournament.
She reached the fourth round for the first time last year where she lost 2-6 4-6 to Jule Niemeier.
But it did not earn her any ranking points because of the tournament being stripped of them in response of a decision to ban Russian and Belarussian players following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
They would have seen her gain automatic entry into other major tournaments, but instead Watson has been playing on the second-tier ITF Tour.
“The memories I made last year making the second week, I definitely want more of that again,” Watson said.
“It went from like the best two weeks in my career to post-Wimbledon, I went back into qualifiers for Grand Slams whereas I would have been main draw for Slams for pretty much the next year.
“It was pretty tough and I haven’t been able to play a lot of the tournaments I would have wanted to play because of ranking cuts, but I feel that tennis-wise and match-wise, I’ve played some of my best tennis in this last year but just at the wrong level.”
Watson will also play in the doubles with Harriet Dart, their first round match is on Wednesday morning against No.7 seeds Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko.
Watson will be embarking on her 13th Wimbledon campaign.
The 31 year old has also had to shake off having her car stolen last month while she was out celebrating her birthday.
It all started last night when my car was stolen from my home – in a secure underground parking garage with CCTV and a 24 hour security man. Whist I was finally getting to celebrate my birthday at dinner with my friends happy birthday to me?

“I was quite logical,” she told the Independent.
“I actually really processed it well, I was like, ‘It’s OK, nobody’s hurt, there are plenty worse things going on in the world, it’s just a material object’. And then now, I’m like, ‘Oh my goodness, what a nightmare’ with all the insurance stuff.
“The police found it, it just doesn’t work. They rewire it to get it started so all the wires have been pulled out. They found it three weeks ago, I called the insurance, they’ve done nothing. So I gave them a kick up the bum.”
