New specialised filters are being put into Beau Sejour’s water systems after a recent outbreak of Legionella bacteria, which forced the leisure centre’s closure this week.
Anyone who has used a shower at Beau Sejour over the past fortnight has been told to keep an eye out for any potential symptoms. If they occur you should seek medical advice.
A spokesperson for the leisure centre said work is now underway to resolve the underlying problem.
“Following the temporary closure of Beau Sejour due to Legionella bacteria detected in the water system, work is ongoing at speed to identify the source of the problem and resolve it.
“Site disinfection began this morning, with internal teams and external specialists working together across the centre.
“As part of the solution, specialised filters are being fitted throughout the site, designed to completely remove bacteria from the water outlet, some of the equipment required is on its way to Guernsey.
“Once it arrives, the filters will be fitted so that areas can be brought back into service as quickly as possible.”
While this work is ongoing, the centre will stay closed until at least the end of Thursday.
A further update will be given during Thursday afternoon confirming plans for the rest of the week and this weekend.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding while this essential work is carried out,” said the spokesperson.
