A set of new postage stamps by a Guernsey-based artist has been released in celebration of Guernsey goats.
Two years after the Royal Golden Guernsey Goat was granted its regal title by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Guernsey Post’s philatelic bureau released new stamps depicting two Royal Golden Guernsey Goat kids.
Designed by Guernsey-based artist Chris Griffiths, the new stamps are the second to feature goats, after a previous set was released last year.
This year’s issue celebrates the expansion of the herd with the addition of two goat kids, Billy the Kid, and Nanny the Kid, reflecting the story of one of Guernsey’s most distinctive and cherished animals.
Despite its Royal profile, the Royal Golden Guernsey Goat remains a rare breed.
Native to Guernsey and known for its distinctive golden colouring, the breed has a history on the island stretching back more than two centuries, and it continues to be supported by conservation efforts both locally and internationally.
