An islander is preparing to run more than 200km next month to mark one year since her breast cancer diagnosis and raise money for the local charity that supported her throughout treatment.

Christa Roberts praised the support she has received from Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey since she was diagnosed with breast cancer last June.

She is aiming to run a total of 222km in June to mark the 222 holistic needs assessments that the charity delivered last year. This works out at 7.4km every day.

Christa told Express: “I don’t think I’d be here without Macmillan, because the support they give is amazing.

“They know how you’re feeling, whereas you kind of hide how you’re feeling from family and friends because you don’t want to upset them.

“Sometimes I just went up there and had a cup of tea and did some of the jigsaw and then left.

“It’s like a social place where you can just be yourself rather than having to act a certain way for other people.”

Christa explained that Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey receives no government funding, so she is hoping to raise money to help the “amazing team” continue their “fantastic work”.

The local charity provides holistic care for cancer patients in the form of reflexology, yoga, exercise classes, counselling and more.

“Thanks to MacMillan I got to enjoy yoga, fitness and reformer pilates classes, reflexology and access to the most loving and understanding team I could ever have imagined,” said Christa, adding that the charity has also provided invaluable support to her family members.
