A man who suffered a heart attack just three days after his wedding has spent this month running 5km every day in aid of a local breast cancer charity that has supported his wife.

Mark Surcouf is running in aid of ABC Jersey, a local charity that offers financial, practical and emotional support to those impacted by breast cancer.

It comes after a tough few years for Mr Surcouf and his family.

Mr Surcouf suffered a heart attack just three days after his wedding in November 2020 and, during his recovery, his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She is still undergoing treatment after four years, and Mr Surcouf described their situation as “something he wouldn’t wish on anyone”.

He explained that he had quit smoking and drinking and found himself turning to food as an “escape” from what he was going through.

Mr Surcouf explained he reached his highest ever weight at almost 175kg.

Since undergoing weight-loss surgery in August 2024, he has now lost 52kg.

Mr Surcouf began running in January 2025, and decided to run 5km each day throughout November as a fundraiser.

He is raising money for ABC Jersey in a bid to “give back” to the charity that supported his wife.

“ABC jersey have been absolutely fantastic to us and generous beyond words during my wife’s cancer journey, so I now feel its time to give back, ” explained Mr Surcouf.

“This will be a huge challenge for me and will push me to a new level.”

Mr Surcouf has so far raised over £1,500 for the breast cancer charity.
