Islanders and visitors who struggle to get around town on foot will be able to collect a mobility scooter directly from Liberation Station under a new trial.
Jersey charity Shopmobility, which currently offers scooters for a small fee from its base at Sand Street car park, hopes the scheme will help more people travel independently.
The trial could be extended to other locations if successful.
Users can register online and will need to complete a short training session.
Shopmobility founder and chairman Edward Trevor said the trial “demonstrates what can be achieved when community organisations, technology partners and public services work together towards a shared goal”.
He added: “By bringing mobility scooters into the heart of Jersey’s public transport network, we are helping to reduce practical barriers and create more opportunities for disabled Islanders and visitors to travel independently and participate fully in island life.”
Mr Trevor said that there was “potential” for similar measures elsewhere in the Island if the trial proved successful.
LibertyBus director Kevin Hart said the company was “delighted” to take part in a scheme that would “improve access for people with disabilities”.
