Jersey Cheshire Home, which is based at Rope Walk off Green Street in St Helier, currently has 25 rooms, nine of which are en-suite, and includes two independent living units. Nursing care is available 24 hours a day.

The ‘Big Build Project’ aims to provide:

  • three additional en-suite bedrooms;
  • six “upgraded” bedrooms;
  • new dedicated therapy treatment room;
  • new “break out” area for staff along with improvements to the admin office facilities;
  • improved wash rooms and accessible toilets;
  • additional bed/wheelchair lift;
  • enhanced nurses station;
  • new multipurpose area for meetings, training and activities.

It’s estimated the work will cost around £2m.

In a letter to the Planning Department the charity says: “…the over-riding objectives are to increase provision for accommodating new seriously disabled residents… and helping the [charity] to become more sustainable reducing need for additional fundraising, and improving facilities provided for all residents and staff.”
