Jersey’s Chief Minister has thanked Sir Keir Starmer for his support of the Island’s interests following the Prime Minister’s announcement this morning.

Senator Lyndon Farnham said he was “grateful” for Sir Keir’s engagement with Jersey since becoming Prime Minister in July 2024 and wished him “the very best for the future”.

“I wish him the very best”

In a statement, the Chief Minister said: “I have seen the Prime Minister’s announcement this morning.

“I am grateful to Sir Keir Starmer for his engagement with us and his support of our interests since his election in July 2024.

“I have met the Prime Minister on several occasions, including at two Summits of the British Irish Council, and I wish him the very best for the future.”

“Jersey maintains a broad range of relationships”

Senator Farnham said Jersey would continue to work closely with the UK Government, regardless of any change in leadership.

“Jersey maintains a broad range of relationships within the Labour Party and across the UK Parliament more generally,” he said.

“It is important that we continue to engage positively with the Government, given the importance of our relationship with the UK, and I look forward to working with the new UK Prime Minister and Cabinet in due course.”
