The annual Christmas parade followed by the lights switch-on in the Royal Square and fireworks, which was originally scheduled to take place this Thursday 17 November, will now go ahead on Thursday 24 November instead.

The Parish of St. Helier explained that high winds and heavy rain are forecast in the period leading up to Thursday 17 November, making it impossible for the event to go ahead safely on that date.

They said: “The Parade will be as normal, although won’t feature the Royal Square as the Genuine Jersey Simply Christmas Market is there. The main focus will be on Weighbridge Place, where the festivities will be even more spectacular than originally planned.”

Town Centre and Event’s Manager Connor Burgher added: “This is not a decision we have taken lightly but the safety of all attending and taking part in the switch on has to come first and I do hope that as many islanders as possible can join us next Thursday instead from 18:30 at the Millennium Town Park.”
