A church concert is set to become the latest in a series of events organised to raise money for a Jersey-born quadruple amputee.
Cardiff University student Lily McGarry was rushed to hospital earlier this year whilst displaying flu-like symptoms.
The 24-year-old suffered two cardiac arrests and was diagnosed with meningococcal septicaemia, which meant she had to undergo surgery to shorten all four limbs.
A concert is due to take place at Georgetown Methodist Church on Thursday 7 August to add to what has now become a massive fundraising pot of almost £450,000 to support the costs of physiotherapy and prosthetics for Lily.
The concert will be performed by Lily’s close school friend Julia Callander and pianist Aaron Le Maistre.
The pair performed at a concert together last year, which was attended by Lily amongst other friends and family.
This year’s concert will be live-streamed to Lily, who is currently in the Welsh Burns and Plastic Surgery unit at Morriston Hospital in Swansea after having additional surgery on her leg last week to remove an area of bone tissue that had died.
She plans to move to a rehabilitation centre in Llandough Cardiff once fully healed, and then hopes to return to Jersey for some rest.
In an update posted on Lily’s GoFundMe page, her mum Jo Gorrod wrote: “The fundraising efforts for Lily continue to amaze.”
