The future of animal welfare in Guernsey is being built – literally, brick by brick – and they’re inviting islanders to be part of it.

The GSPCA has launched a ‘Buy a Brick’ appeal to help fund the biggest build it has undertaken in its 152-year history – a £3.7m new unit to which will include the island’s first ever purpose-built ferret unit, new wildlife hospital and rehoming kennels.

The project is already underway, with more than £1m raised and foundations now being laid for the new hospital, which will include state-of-the-art treatment and rehabilitation spaces for local wildlife, including hedgehogs, birds, seals, and marine animals, but the charity recently said they’re still seeking another £2.2m to bring their vision to life.

To help do so, islanders and businesses are being invited to buy their very own brick, with their name, their company’s or a loved one’s engraved on it and proudly featured on the wall of the new facility.

Supporters can buy their own brick for £50 or donate £250 to have a family name or company logo engraved. Every one who buys a brick will receive a certificate and token of appreciation.

The new build will replace outdated facilities – some of which dating as far back as the 1940s, the charity said.

“This is the BIGGEST BUILD in our history,” said GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne.

“We are incredibly excited and proud to be creating a future where every wild, domestic, and unwanted animal in Guernsey gets the care they truly deserve.”
