The now former head of air navigation services at Jersey Airport, Richard Mayne, has now retired from the role, which has seen him face challenges ranging from the fall-out of 9/11, and the Icelandic volcano eruption – and subsequent travel disruption – of 2010.
Mr Mayne started his career in 1988 as a trainee air traffic controller, working his way through the ranks until becoming the air navigation head around two years ago.
The 54-year-old said he was “incredibly lucky and fortunate” to be in a position to retire and travel the world – with a skiing trip in Austria among the imminent holidays.
