“Whilst there he tried to steal money by threatening one of the cashiers and a customer who was being served,” officers explained.

“When the alarm was raised the male ran from the premises, chased by the customer, and headed up Queen’s Road.
“He was last seen by the junction of Queen’s Road and St John’s Road.
“He did not manage to steal anything and no one was harmed.”
Describing the suspect as between 5’10” and 6′ tall and of slim build, police added that he “was wearing a black balaclava/ski mask, a black long-sleeved top with grey patterned/camouflage arms, grey camouflaged trousers, brown boots and black gloves”.

He was also said to be carrying a white plastic bag.

Police are now on the hunt for anyone who saw what happened or who may recognise the suspect from the CCTV images of the attempted robbery.
In particular, they would like to hear from anyone in the area between 18:30 and 19:00 and those driving along Queen’s Road with dash-cam footage.
