A hooded man attempted to steal a man’s car keys while threatening him at knifepoint over the weekend, police officers have said in an appeal for information.

The force stated that the incident took place at a property on La Route de La Haule in St Brelade at 5:35pm on Saturday 7 February.

It is alleged the male knocked on the door to the property and asked for the owner’s car keys while holding a small knife.

The door was immediately shut and locked and the man did not access the home.

CCTV footage provided by the police shows the suspect wondering around in the vicinity of the St Brelade property.

An appeal has been sent out for people who were in the area at the time.

Members of the public who drove along the road between 5pm and 6pm on Saturday and have dash cam footage are specifically requested.

A statement from the police reassured islanders that the attempted robbery “appears to be an isolated incident”.

Describing the suspect, a police spokesperson said: “Officers are seeking to identify a male, dressed in a black jacket with hood up, grey baggy jogging bottoms, black boots or trainers, carrying a dark rucksack with white details possibly adidas who was seen in the area at the time.

“We ask that you look at the CCTV footage that has been released to see if this is someone you recognise.”

CAN YOU HELP?

The force would like to speak with anyone who may have any information, who are being asked to contact police on 612612 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their Anonymous Online Form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
