An electricity cable running under Weighbridge Place was damaged last week during the building of the large marquee housing the rink.

The attraction was due to open on Saturday, but now will not be open until Friday 15 November.

Jersey Development Company, which runs the rink, said this revised opening date could change, depending on how the repair works progress.

The damage to the 90,000 volt cable was caused by a third-party contractor driving in a heavy-duty iron anchoring stake as part of the marquee’s weather proofing to withstand high winds.

The cable needs to be repaired by specialist jointing teams, which need to be brought in from the UK.

JDC, the Government-owned property developer, said it was sorry for the unforeseen delay, adding that it was working closely with Jersey Electricity to get the cable fixed as soon as possible.

Islanders with ice rink bookings affected by the delayed opening can be changed by using the ‘Jersey On Ice’ Rink app or refunded by emailing enquiries@jerseydevelopment.je.
