A local disability charity has praised the Weighbridge ice rink’s “great accessible toilet and changing area” after the attraction came under fire for its accessibility last year.
In a post on social media, Enable Jersey said: “We took a wander round the ice rink today and wanted to say a huge well done and thank you to Jersey Development Company for listening and putting in such a great accessible toilet and changing area this year.
“Let’s celebrate what might feel like little changes, but ones that can make so much difference to people.”
Last year, concerns were raised on social media about the removal of sit-on karts, which were previously used by some disabled children to skate on the rink run by the States of Jersey Development Company.
Among the other accessibility concerns highlighted by social media users was the lack of what they deemed to be appropriate disabled toilets.
Visitors complained that facilities required users to access a portable toilet outside the back of the main venue.
Following feedback, the JDC relocated the portable disabled facilities and was working with Enable Jersey to improve accessibility.
