Havre Des Pas was closed to all traffic earlier this month to enable the works, as well as the installation of raised tables and pedestrian crossing improvements.

The road was due to remain closed for approximately seven weeks as the works were carried out.

Following this, a number of road users took to social media to decry the “absolute carnage” it had caused, with some reporting being stuck in resulting traffic for up to an hour as a result.

With this latest development, which has left the team without the plant’s supply of asphalt, the Government said said they were working on contingency plans to limit delays, and that certain parts of the work would continue.

They did not give a date for when normal operations would begin again.

A Government spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of technical problems at Ronez’s asphalt manufacturing plant, which means they are currently unable to supply asphalt for the Havre des Pas resurfacing project.

“While some work on the road can continue, the main resurfacing element of the project will need to be paused while we wait for asphalt manufacture to restart. The road will remain closed for safety reasons.

“The project has, to this point, run to schedule. The site team are working on contingency plans to limit delays and the consequent impact on the public.”
