More than 200 freight trailers have arrived in Jersey since Saturday as DFDS works to restore ferry services following Storm Austen – but high waves have forced another cancellation.

Severe weather prevented ferry arrivals on Thursday and Friday. Around 85 freight trailers were brought into the Island on Saturday, followed by a further 120 on Monday morning.

Both Stena Vinga and Caesarea Trader arrived in St Helier early on Monday, with Stena Vinga docking at around 3.30am to unload and take on freight before the second vessel arrived.

The ships are now returning to Portsmouth to collect more freight and prepare to resume their regular services.

Meanwhile, Tarifa Jet is heading to St Malo, with the Jersey–France passenger service scheduled to restart on Monday evening.

However, despite improving conditions, high waves in the Channel have led to the cancellation of Stena Vinga’s scheduled Tuesday sailing.

DFDS currently expects normal services to resume from Wednesday, subject to weather and operational conditions.

Chris Parker, the operator’s Jersey route director, said: “Despite the difficult conditions over the past few days, we have been able to maintain the movement of essential supplies into Jersey, with significant volumes of freight arriving on Saturday and again this morning.”

He thanked crews, shore teams, Ports of Jersey, Portsmouth International Port, stevedores, customs and freight customers for their work to bring supplies to the Island.

“We also appreciate the patience of passengers whose travel plans have been affected. Our focus now is on restoring regular services as quickly as weather conditions allow,” he added.

Passengers are advised to check the latest sailing information before travelling, as schedules could still change.
