On two evenings last week, officers from the parish noted 20 drivers ignoring the stop light in a total period of 90 minutes at the Rue de Galet turn-off from Victoria Avenue following a report from a member of the public.

These drivers are being contacted and warned about their future behaviour. Further actions, officers have warned, will be taken in future, including summons to a Parish Hall Enquiry and fines.

They also pledged to step up patrols of the area, which had traffic lights installed following a tragic accident around two decades ago.

“This is a very busy road, especially in the evenings when traffic on Victoria Avenue gets backed up. However, there is no excuse for cutting corners to save a small amount of time on the journey home,” Chef de Police Centenier Mike Haden commented.

“We are keeping an eye on the situation and hope that this warning will make the few reckless drivers think about their actions. We are certainly prepared to take firm action to prevent this risky behaviour.”
