From today, British and Irish citizens who hold dual nationality must be able to prove that they are British or Irish when they enter the UK, Isle or Man or the Channel Islands, by showing their passport.

Anyone who is not a British or Irish citizen will require either a visa or Electronic Travel Authorities – known as an ETA – to enter the UK, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, which collectively is known as the Common Travel Area.

Jersey Customs and Immigration Service is reminding all travellers of today’s changes.

Having a ETA, which is attached to the second-nationality passport, is already a requirement for those travelling through the UK to visit Jersey.

The Channel Islands and Isle of Man expect that ETAs for direct travel to the Islands will be introduced from April 2026.

Until today, a British dual national – whose other nationality is from a country not subject to a UK visa requirement – could travel into the Common Travel Area using their foreign passport.
