Durrell has submitted a planning application to update and replace the apparatus in its zoo play area.

The existing outdoor equipment has become tired with age and use, according to the plans.

Proposed improvements include increasing the amount of play equipment so children have more to do, with additions such as a ‘Durrell’s Den’ with a role-play kitchen, magnifying station and a balancing wall trail.

A new wildwood entrance and more seating for parents are both featured in the plans, as well as a shaded teepee area for hot summer days or any sudden showers.

In a supporting document submitted alongside the plans, architects Dyson and Buesnel assured if work is approved, there will be no impact on any other area of the zoo including the listed buildings.

The full planning application can be found online.
