One member of the Force accompanied a post warning islanders not to use the cycle path between St Aubin and West Park because of the stormy conditions with a photo of a naked leg on a bed.

The ‘mistake’ was quickly taken down from the States of Jersey Police Facebook page, but not before it was screen-grabbed and shared on other Facebook group pages.

 

Pictured: A local satirical Facebook page joked about the social media mishap.

The ‘Not The Jersey Police’ parody Facebook page shared the post, commenting: “Nice Knickers Officer.”

This, in turn, attracted many more comments.

Hilario Rio Diogo wrote: “Thanks for the advice… and the random picture!!!!”

Terry Labey suggested: “That’s why each officer was issued with a smartphone, checking out how their toe nails look!”

While Jodez Le Fevre sympathised with the officer behind the post, saying: “Thankfully it was only the legs (…) poor woman!!”

Christopher James Davies commented: “Anybody else notice the irony in them posting this earlier today!” referring to the Police sharing an article warning people about their ‘digital footprint’ just hours earlier.

The official States of Jersey Police Facebook page has over 27,000 followers, and is used to promote campaigns, give warnings and even have a bit of a joke with islanders.

Their mixture of advice and humour has even won an award for the ‘Best Social Media’ at the Customer Service Awards in October 2017.

The Police had been busy this week uploading many warnings of flooding, road closures and storm debris on their social media page, when the gaffe happened on Wednesday night.

A spokesperson for the Police told Express: “The photo wasn’t intentional and it was quickly removed but may have been spotted by a few people. Whilst there was nothing offensive about the picture, as you can imagine we are a little embarrassed by our mistake, as is the person involved. That said, it shows that our staff are working at all hours trying to keep the public informed, even from the comfort of our homes. We are only human after all!”
