Dust off your dancing shoes… and get ready to feel the bass. A new nightclub boasting a £70,000 DJ sound system is set to open its doors in Jersey this weekend in a vote of confidence for the nighttime economy, and Express was first inside for a sneak peek…
X nightclub, which sits in the former ROJOs building on Beresford Street, will welcome its first guests this Friday 17 October.
But the launch is just the first stage of the re-opening of the three-storey building, with two more floors – each with separate styles, age ranges and opening times – set to open in the next month or so.
After three months of work, the ground floor has been completely refurbished and will open every weekend – with a view to opening four days a week depending on demand.
The ground-floor space, which will focus on highlighting local talent, will be open to over-18s and includes a high-tech DJ sound system worth over £70,000.
It also has a bigger dance floor than the former ROJOs club, which closed in December last year.
The team who have been working on the launch of the new club hope it will be a welcome boost for the Island’s nighttime economy which has suffered from a number of closures and setbacks in recent years.
As well as Rojos, longstanding Bath Street nightclub Havana also shut its doors at the end of 2024 and the building later went on the market for nearly £2m.
A Portuguese cultural centre and bar opened at the site of Rojos in December 2024, but had to close just eight months later due to struggles keeping up with operating costs.
In June, it was confirmed that the Daily Globe – popular among Islanders for its Disco Bingo sessions and steak nights in particular – would be closing at the end of December. Its managing director said the cost-of-living crisis and rising rental costs were to blame.
Although the first few weeks of Club X will be free, clubbers will have to pay an entry fee for X once the full building is open. The cost will include a drink upon entry. The club will be open until 02:00.
More information about upcoming events can be found on the club’s Instagram page.
