One of Jersey’s largest food suppliers is set to close next month, citing “increasingly challenging trading conditions” including rising rent and shipping costs.

Cimandis – a wholesaler that supplies restaurants, hotels, cafés and care homes across the Channel Islands – announced its closure yesterday.

Company director Nigel Holliday said the decision “has not been taken lightly”.

He explained: “It follows a period of increasingly challenging trading conditions, including significant increases in rent and shipping costs, which have rendered ongoing operations unsustainable.

“Despite our diligent efforts, the economic environment has exerted substantial pressure on our capacity to sustain a viable business model.”

In a statement, Mr Holliday confirmed that the closure affects only the Jersey site, which is located on Longueville Road.

“This decision does not affect our operations in Guernsey or our service to Herm and Sark,” he said.

The Cimandis director said the focus was now on supporting affected staff.

“We are actively engaging with other foodservice companies to assist in aligning our staff with new opportunities, thereby ensuring continuity and stability for our employees wherever possible,” he added.

Cimandis plans to launch clearance sales in the coming weeks to reduce stock levels.

“This presents an opportunity for our Jersey-based customers to acquire essential products and maintain their menus during the busy summer season,” said Mr Holliday.
