A space used by a town private members club founded in 1905 will be given a “more appropriate and sustainable use” as an office, if planning agrees.
A planning application submitted by PAGE Architects on behalf of applicant Tim Zeale seeks permission to remove the Alliance Club and bar set-up on the first floor of 8 Bond Street and replace it with office accommodation linked to neighbouring offices at No. 9.
In the cover letter accompanying the plans, Page Architects director George De Sousa summarises the proposal as “a sensitive and practical enhancement to both properties, delivering a more appropriate and sustainable use within the historic town centre”.
He continued: “By removing the bar use and introducing a connected office space, it reduces potential disturbance, improves functionality, and supports the long-term conservation of these listed buildings.
“Overall, the scheme aligns with relevant planning policies and will contribute positively to the character and economic vitality of the area.”
