A fundraiser has been launched to save a historic Jersey Fire Brigade fire engine from being scrapped.

The Dennis F8 Fire Engine, which is currently located in France, was offered to the Fire Brigade Museum as a donation.

The Hampshire-based museum is now attempting to raise over £1,000 to pay for a freight ticket for the vehicle and transport it from Portsmouth.

Fire Brigade Museum volunteers explained: “This fire engine is located in France and is in an old shed scheduled to be demolished.

“We have a limited time to recover the fire engine as the owner is being pressured to remove the fire engine to enable demolition.

“Failure to act quickly will lead to the vehicle being scrapped.”

This classic fire engine was one of more than 250 F8s built by Dennis at their Guildford factory between 1952 and 1960.

The Fire Brigade Museum is situated in Romsey on the outskirts of the New Forest in Hampshire.

The tourist attraction and educational site aims to preserve the history of the British Fire Service, mainly through the collection and preservation of historic fire engines.

Led by volunteers, the museum also raises funds to support the mental health of emergency workers across the UK.
