Choreography created by “one of the giants of the dance industry” is set to make its British debut in Jersey this week as part of a double-bill performance by the island’s national ballet company.

Ballet d’Jèrri will perform Marco Goecke’s Whiteout at Haute Vallée Theatre across the Easter weekend.

Set to the music of Bob Dylan, Goecke’s piece premiered at Les Ballets de Monte Carlo in 2008.

The choreography has since been performed by companies all around the world – but Ballet d’Jèrri’s performance will be its British debut.

Whiteout is described as “hauntingly bittersweet” and “the perfect introduction to the work of one of the giants of the dance industry”.

The second half of Ballet d’Jèrri’s show will bring back one of the company’s first commissioned original works.

Deliberate Mistake is a “poetic reflection on Jersey’s history, identity, and collective memory”.

Co-created by resident choreographer Asier Edeso Eguia and artist Yulia Makeyeva, with an original score by Ilia Osokin, the work takes inspiration from Jersey’s knitting traditions – where deliberate flaws in knitted jumpers once helped identify lost sailors.

The choreography transforms this idea into a “stirring metaphor for fragility, loss, and resilience within our island community”.

The two-part performance will take place from 19:30 on Thursday 17 April and Friday 18 April, with two performances at 14:30 and 19:30 on Saturday 19 April.

The premiere on Thursday includes a complimentary welcome drink and post-show reception, offering guests the chance to meet the dancers and choreographers over light refreshments.

Tickets can be purchased online.
