GALLERY: After 28 months... the music returns - Bailiwick Express News Jersey

The JSO had six concerts cancelled over the last two years, with the most recent one – their Christmas performance – cancelled just five days before it was scheduled due to the omicron variant of covid-19.

On Saturday 6 August, they finally managed to get the music started again with a showstopping performance at Les Quennevais School.

Under the direction of Hilary Davan Wetton, the orchestra performed well-loved pieces such as Copland’s ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’, Bizet’s ‘Carmen Suite No.1’, Grieg’s ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’, and Glinka’s ‘Overture. Ruslan and Ludmilla’.

Soloist Gerard Le Feuvre performed Elgar’s Cello Concerto.

In addition to the evening concert, the musicians also presented a special ‘Discovery Concert’ earlier in the day, with Mr Davan Wetton leading the audience through some of the evening concert’s repertoire.
