GALLERY: Red rebels spread green message

On Saturday, the ‘Red Rebels’ – a Jersey wing of the global Extinction Rebellion Movement – walked silently through St. Helier town centre before taking various public transport routes across the west of the island and arriving at the airport.

The aim of their quiet act was to discourage islanders from returning to a non-environmentally friendly way of living now that lockdown – a period during which recorded emissions dropped significantly in Jersey – has eased.

The group also aimed to inspire action from States Members.

Since the States Assembly agreed to pursue a Carbon Neutral Strategy on 31 December last year, which included the proposal of a Citizens’ Assembly, Jersey’s Red Rebels say they’ve seen “no action towards hearing people on the ground.”
