The first of what is set to become a monthly open jam night at a Wharf Street music venue took place this week – showcasing local artists playing a mix of jazz, soul and funk.

The Sundown’s first open-mic night took place on Thursday 20 February.

Due to the success of the evening, organisers are now planning to do a monthly jam event at the bar.

Jennah Smart, who organised the inaugural event, said: “I hope as the night grows, it will bring our community together and help people discover a new passion for music as a listener.

“As creatives, we tend to be progressive and even though this evening is about preserving the high level of musicianship we have as a community.

“This night is also a platform to inspire people to take up an instrument and encourage future generations of musicians and creatives to come and join us on stage.”
