ArtHouse Jersey’s ‘Isolation Creation’ 19-day drawing challenge aims to get everyone’s creative juices flowing during lockdown.

To organise the challenge, they teamed up with local mixed media artist Will Bertram, who created a list of daily themes to not only keep islanders inspired throughout the challenge, but also to give them the opportunity to quietly consider aspects of their new temporary way of life.

Hundreds of people have taken part, posting their creations on social media and using the hashtags #19daydrawingchallenge and #isolationcreationjersey, and tagging @arthousejersey and @billwertram, giving islanders at large the opportunity to enjoy them.

“A warm and supportive community has formed around the project and it’s themes and it’s been a joy to scour the hashtags each evening and admire Jersey’s creativity,” a spokesperson for ArtHouse Jersey said.

With 12 days to go in the challenge, there is still time to grab drawing utensils and set to work.

As Tom Dingle, Director of ArtHouse Jersey, assured the challenge is definitely not about “being the best drawer”.

“If you’re terrible at drawing, great! This is for you,” he said. “Our aim is to get as many members of our community all drawing together, creating a sense of unity and social cohesion during this challenging time.”
